“Workaholic”... ”Overly Competitive”... ”Impatient”... ”Overly Ambitious”... ”Perfectionist”... these, and other descriptors are generally what you hear when people describe someone with a Type A personality. Not exactly the most positive traits you want to be known for, but let’s face it, each type of personality comes with their own set of positive and negative traits.  Type B personalities can be known for being too self involved, scared of being alone, don’t finish what they start, are too impulsive, procrastinate, etc.  Type C personalities canworry about progress, can appear unsocial, have critical behavior, likes to do things their own way, can see the glass half empty, be skeptical, disbelieving, etc.  Type D personalities (yes, there is a Type D even!) are known for not speaking up, can be easily used by others, go along when they don’t agree, are uncomfortable with constant change,  are less assertive, shy, etc.

However, knowing the positive traits of being a Type A personality can help people with a Type A personality navitage every aspect of life!  So today, I am dedicating this post to the positive traits of Type A personalities and how Type A’s can use these positive traits as leverage for success.

Type A Positive Personality Traits

  1. Hardworking

Type A personalities are some of the hardest working people you will meet, which makes them great as your leader, teammate, employee, student, you name it!  You can rely on a Type A to put in the long hours to accomplish what needs accomplishing, and will never have to second guess their dedication to getting a job done.

  1. Resilient

Resilience is a quality we all wish we could have, and a trait we wish to install in our children.  To be resilient in the face of adversity or tremendous challenges is a personality trait that makes heroes.  So if you’re sick of hearing all the negatives of having a Type A personality, remind yourself that you hold a quality that many aspire to.

  1. Goal-oriented

You will probably not find many people more goal oriented than a Type A.  They know what they want, when they want it, and what it takes to get there.  They are dedicated to taking every step necessary to achieving their goals and seldom are distracted from reaching them.  If a Type A makes a goal or resolution, you can bet your bottom dollar they will reach it.

  1. Amazing leaders

The hardworking capabilities, resiliency, dedication to achieving goals, and ambitiousness that Type A personalities have make them amazing leaders.  These are our entrepreneurs, CEOs, business owners, executives, managers, etc.  They can see a goal, and get their organization, employees or investors motivated to achieve that goal.  They are tireless in their pursuits, and generally know how to manage others to help reach the highest heights.

  1. Work well independently

Type A’s are not the type of person that likes to take direction from others, nor work alongside others necessarily.  They are great at working well independently.  They know their tasks, how to get them accomplished, and often times accomplish those tasks on their own.  They do not like, nor need, supervision.  Which again, makes them an asset to the industry they work in.  They don’t waste time, seldom make errors, and prove to be pretty darn efficient because of these qualities.

  1. Passionate

Type A people are also passionate about the things they choose to pursue.  Most of the time those “things” tend to be work-related, but they include that passionate nature in most of their dealings.  This is also what makes them such great leaders - let’s face it, people love to be led by someone who is passionate about what they are doing, representing, selling, etc.  When we see someone who is passionate about what they are doing, even if it isn’t something we are totally digging, the passion alone inspires us to be better at what we are doing.

  1. Multitasking

Type A personalities are also great at multitasking because they tend to be uber-organized, allowing for many things to get done at once.  I am still an avid list maker and I do acknowledge that having multiple lists in play actually helps me to get many things done at the same time.  Type A’s are efficient because of this multitasking capability and many times can get things quicker than those that need to focus on one task at a time.

Now, this is not an exhaustive list of alllllllll the positive personality traits that Type A’s can hold, but these are certainly some of the most frequently seen and notable.  So before you go bashing yourself or your boss as domineering, aggressive, or easily irritated, remember that these positive qualities can balance out the well…..”less” positive qualities.  And that a Type A is a tremendous addition to anything they set their sights on.
